It’s been a while. Sorry about that guys and dolls. I’ve been doing other people things.

In the time since I’ve last written (I’ll just have to check when that was… 1st of March, right) I’ve done many and varied wonderful things. There was a 3600 mile road trip, all of which I drove. There was magic (literally), music, boats, gambling, working, sweating, bleeding, spending, saving, misery and happiness. There have been many photos, incidentally, which should be viewed on my photobucket page.

I’m rambling now. Point is, it’s been a while and things have changed and I am now at a somewhat confusing and crossroady time again. Well, not quite yet, but certainly soon.

Travelling around the states for three weeks was wonderful. Coming back to work and my fairly boring life here was not. That’s not to say that I don’t like or enjoy my life, ’cause I actually really do. But comparatively speaking, it’s dull. Added to that, the fact that I had to come back to the daily grind of work, especially in a branch with people I do not, in any way, get on with, it was quite a shock just how… draining it instantly was.

I don’t think I can do it anymore. The daily nine to five doesn’t work right now. I do realise, before it’s pointed out, that I sound really rather childish and immature moaning about having to go to work and such, but, fuck it. Where was it written that people had to live their lives like that?

I mentioned a crossroads. I am, on the most basic level, trying to decide whether I should be an adult, get my own place, stay in my (fairly) secure and reliably well-paying job and, you know, start life proper. Or. Deciding whether I should, early next year, take an ‘extended career break’ from work, which is tantamount to quitting, and get a travelling working visa for Australia and go hang out there for a year, touring the country and stopping to work whenever necessary. Then maybe heading back through the east and then overland through Europe back home.

Ooh, my game’s done installing. I’ll come back later.

Sweet frustration…

So, how was everyone’s Christmas? Good? Good. Mine was wonderful thanks. Made a nice change to have more than one day off of work at a time. I also discovered the beauties of uTorrent over those two days and thus my music collection has been expanding exponentially ever since. Woot.

I randomly came across a few articles on what I think is a guy’s blog. I started reading them thinking they were slightly parodical but as I got further into them it turns out that they’re actually both frighteningly accurate as they apply to me. Now, I’d rather call myself a geek than a nerd, but it’s quite a fine line these days, so I’ll let it slide. Check them both out. And please actually do read them rather than just clicking on the link and scanning.

A Nerd in a Cave

So what did we think? Comments welcome, as usual.

Now, on the comment front, I need some help. As previously mentioned, I’ve recently started using uTorrent, and I’m already running out of ideas for music I can download. Anyone have any suggestions of bands or artists I can sample? If you’re reading this there’s a fair chance you already know what kind of music I like, so I’ll leave the recommendations in your hands.

Nothing else to write about now. See you soon.

Many apologies for the lack of blog over the last few weeks. I’m sure you’ve all coped really. I’ve been on holiday, as well as having many and varied computer troubles, which is quite uninspiring as to making one want to sit down behind said PC and write stuff. I am, quite obviously, back from my holiday now. I have changed the blog theme to be in-keeping with the seasonal weather outside. I thought it was nicely congruent. I’ll try and get back into it a little more regularly now.

Had an awesome time on holiday with Kelly, so my thanks go out to her. I took loads of weird and varied photos, and I’ll be sure to link and show them once they’re processed and uploaded to my Photobucket. This may take quite some time given the crash-at-any-moment-without-warning nature of my PC currently, and my propensity not to save work every minute when working on photos…

I’m also in the planning and saving stage for my next trip around the States. Itinerary hasn’t been finalised yet, so no details to follow. However, it does mean I’m *incredibly* short on money this month ’cause I hadn’t planned to start saving yet. Next month will be fine, I just won’t spend over a hundred pounds on CDs and DVDs, and buy a new keyboard for half that again… I’m on track for a fairly substantial bonus at work this quarter though, depending on how the next five weeks go, so that would help an awful lot.

And now I’m going to go and get dressed.

ADDITIONAL: Gahahahaha, I just spell-checked this post as standard, and it transpires that the spell checker on WordPress doesn’t recognise the word ‘blog’. That is amazing.

So I have several things to write about today, though I can’t guarantee that any of them will actually be interesting.

The share price went up 11 pence today, which is the largest rise in a few weeks since the peak of the turmoil, so things might be on the up and there’s just a small chance I won’t actually lose money after all, which is nice.

It seems the gods of Spite and Irony have been conspiring against me of late (not that they exist of course, but you know). Since writing my previous post about my dislike for charity collectors (not, I’d like it known, charity in general), I have been put in charge of all the charity events coordinating and collecting at work in November for Children In Need. I was less than impressed. Firstly, I’m no good at organising things like that, but more importantly I have no idea what kind of things we can do to raise monies. Thankfully, I’ll be in an entirely different country at the time, so I may yet be able to get out of it.

You know, every time I navigate to the WordPress site, all the Hawt Posts, Top VIP Posts, and Hot Community Posts are always about Obama, McCain, Palin, and the up-coming US election. Now granted, this is quite an interesting time, politically, but still. I can’t help wondering what all you people are going to write about once someone’s been elected and it’s all over and done with. Yes yes, I know there’ll still be plenty of issues for you to cover, re-cover, cover a third time, wax lyrical on unnecessarily, and talk about ad nauseum, but some of you are going to run out of fuel after the choice is made. I’m looking forward to it. Not only do an awful lot of the political blogs genuinely upset me because of the sheer and unashamed ignorance and arrogance of some of the people writing them, but also because frankly, I want something different on the WordPress front page to catch my eye.

While I generally dislike Facebook, especially because it’s not working properly at the moment whatsoever on my laptop, it does have some uses. I recently got ‘added’ by a girl I used to go to school with and haven’t seen or spoken to for nearly 15 years. It brought up some old and chucklesome memories – we used to hang out together climbing trees (pun unintended but left in for effect) and such like. She was my first girlfriend, in as much as you can have a girlfriend when you’re 11 years old. Anyway, yes, the joys of the internet.

I have had quite a few compliments on my reply to the journalist who wrote that fucking atrocious article that I posted in this entry (though not one comment on it, people – disappointed). I also know from past experience that I’m very good at writing that kind of thing, scathing and generally sarcastic and caustic replies to other people’s stupidity or ignorance. However, I’m straining my mind to think of what possible genre of writing I can turn that into, other than perhaps being a critic, which doesn’t really interest me. I do enjoy writing and having a good rant at someone for being foolish, though, so it’s something I’d like to do more of. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can put that slightly unique brand of writing to good use? Regardless, until someone comes up with a decent idea or two, I’m going to start a campaign to get that ‘journalist’ fired, removed, resigned, or generally incredibly discredited for his utter and complete failure to produce anything worthy of reading. Should be fun.

I’m sure I had some other things to say, too, but I can’t remember them now. Alas.

Oh. I found out today that one of my best friends has cancer. He’s 22. I’m not sure I’m entirely thrilled about that.

I only meant to love you…

I have some honourable mentions to add to the below post of webcomics and generally amusing blogs and sites.

All in all…

I have stumbled across a few webcomics and blogs that amuse me. Not quite enough to put on my blogroll or sites of note lists, but enough to link to, so, here they are. Enjoy.

MonkeyFluids

Wondermark

DM of the Rings which is an off-shoot from Twenty Sided. Very geeky, be warned. Hi, nice to meet you.

Not a Planet Anymore, which is a blog about speculative fiction of most/all kinds. Fairly interesting if that’s your kind of thing.

L33T G33K is a blog of all things techy and generally geeky, but has some very interesting and entertaining articles in it, so check it out. Life imitates xkcd, for instance, and this one might be highly useful and functional.

Blogoscoped is actually a blog and forum about all things Google, and since I love Google, here you go.

I think that’s all for now. I may return with more at a later date.
